Are you still "prepared" or have you let your guard down?

Here in Central Pennsylvania, I live in the are affected by the ice storms, similar, but not as bad as the midwest US saw a week or so ago.  Now, I'm what I consider to be pretty well prepared ever since 9/11.  My garage contains many tents, camp stoves, etc. from my son and our camping trips with the Boy Scouts.  Down to even owning a propane crock pot, space heaters, lanterns, cots, you name it.

Well I knew the storm was coming, so did my better half when she unpacked our 4 WD SUV to use for a Sunday trip and put my "car bag" in the garage, right there with the rest of our camping gear.  She left for the day trip with family right after our power had gone out for the second time. I stayed behind.  Now let me just tell you that my garage a so called "two car garage" has two doors and a bank of shelves seperate one side from the other. Then on the one side where the service door is, we are storing all sorts of things too good to throw out, give away or sell. Get the picture, it is STUFFED.

So the storm comes, the power goes, I figure no big deal, I own everything to survive OUTSIDE in blizzard condiotns, this is a piece of cake and went shopping for the day, because the stores were empty! I'm using the storm to MY benefit!  Well, I come back hours later and a few minutes later my neighbor stops by to let me know that the power that wouldn't be back on until Tuesday night. No problemo, I got GEAR---now if only I had a battery operated garage door opener to let me at it!

The moral is, if  you let your guard down like I did---learn from me and redo your emergencey kit for the home and your "go bag" in case you have to move out.

Lucky for me they got my power back on, so I could OPEN the garage to MOVE MY GEAR to a more accessible area!
